Originally from the Elemental plane of Air, these creatures migrated to the Material Plane in search of power. Unbeknownst to them, generations later, those still in Adestria have had their affinity with the winds lost, their wings clipped, unable to stay aloft for long periods of time. 

Confined within the dark caves of ThesahThesah\#location Within a large cavern along the Western coastline, lies an Aarakocran city, where the settlement hangs from the ceiling like rafters. The floor floods nightly as the tides rise and fall thus the perfect habitat for an airborne race.  * Main commodity is fish that have been swept in with the rising tides. Often the Aaracokras have been witnessed swooping down from their homes to grab food though more often than not, large fishing rods are cast down like banyan trees when not actively on Mahra Coulta, they dive for fish in short bursts.

Yet many young Aarakocra continue to hope for the day when they will be able to soar once again through the air without limitation.
